Salasar Balaji Temple in Sujangarh

Sujangarh in Rajasthan is famous for its forts and havelis as well as for housing innumerable temples and shrines in the vicinity. The temple of Salasar Balaji in Salasar off National Highway 65, barely 25 kilometres from Sujangarh is a Shaktipeeth and revered shrine visited by scores of pilgrims throughout the year. The temple of Salasar Balaji is dedicated to Lord Hanuman, who is also worshiped as Balaji and the shrine is now famous as a Swayambhu or self orienting as miracles are believed to happen here. Erected for over a term of 2 years, the temple is a marvelous architectural splendor with white marble stone carvings and the prayer hall and sanctum decked up in silver and gold artwork.

The entire temple is an ornamented creation covered in silver and gold work and filigree with flower motifs and patterns done in mosaic form. The fascinating aspect of the idol of Salasar Balaji is the idol or deity of Lord Hanuman with a circular face and paired with a mustache and a beard.

Legend says the deity or Swayambhu of Lord Hanuman or Salasar Balaji was discovered on a Saturday of Shravan Shukla Navami Samvat in 1754 AD by Ginthala Jat of Asota village in Nagour district of Rajasthan while mowing the field. The discovery of the deity of Salasar Balaji reached Thakur of Asota who received a sermon from the deity in his dream asking him to transfer the idol to Salasar to Mohandas Maharaj who witnessed the same dream. The idol which was being brought to Salasar in a carriage stopped at the spot. Thus the temple was erected first with clay and the deity was sanctified at Salasar which is presently known as Salasar Dham.

The temple is open for devotees from 4:00AM in the morning till 10:00 pm at night and restaurants, Dharamshalas, shops selling Prasad and puja offerings are also multiplying over the years. Brahmin priests from Dadhich group are in charge of worshipping the deity of Salasar Balaji. The temple is famous for coconut tying and offering of Savamani (50 kg Prasad) to the idol) to seek blessings from the idol and fulfilling their wishes.

Regular aarti, recitations of verses from Ramayana and kirtans/ bhajans are organized on the temple premises. Fairs are held on Hanuman Jayanti on Chaitra Shukla Chaturdashi, Purnima, Ashwin Shukla Chaturdashi and Bhadra Shukla Chaturdashi. The temple can be accessed from Sujangarh via the railway station or from neighbouring cities and districts in Rajasthan.
